Digital vs Print - How to Display Your Pet Portrait

Your portrait arrives as a high-resolution digital file. Here's why that's an advantage, and the best ways to print, frame, and share it.

When your portrait arrives as a high-resolution digital file rather than a physical print, some people pause - isn't a printed canvas more "real"? In practice, the digital file is the more useful thing to own, and it gives you far more freedom. Here's why, and how to make the most of it.

Why digital is the better starting point

  • It arrives instantly - anywhere in the world. No shipping, no customs, no waiting. This matters especially for a gift with a deadline, or for family living abroad who you want to send a copy to.
  • You can print it as many times as you like. One file, one small print for the desk and one large piece for the wall and a copy posted to your mother. You're not buying a single object; you're buying the artwork itself.
  • You choose the size and the material. Paper, canvas, framed print, aluminium, acrylic - you decide, using a printer you trust, at the size your wall actually needs.
  • It can't be lost to a house move or a spill. The file is backed up and reprintable forever. A single physical print is one accident away from gone.

Printing it well

A high-resolution file deserves a good print. A few simple pointers:

  • Use a proper print service, not the supermarket kiosk, for anything you'll frame. Local print shops and quality online services both work well.
  • Match the size to the resolution. Our files are prepared to print large and stay crisp - but if you're going very big (think above-the-sofa statement size), ask the printer to confirm the file suits that dimension. It will, for normal wall sizes.
  • Consider the material to the style. An oil painting or Renaissance portrait looks wonderful on canvas; line art or pop art often looks sharpest on a clean framed paper print.

Framing for the room

Let the portrait lead. A classic painted style suits a warm wood or gold frame; a modern line-art piece sits beautifully in a thin black or natural-wood frame with a generous white border (a mount). When in doubt, a simple frame and a wide mount make almost any portrait look gallery-grade.

Beyond the wall

Because it's a file, the same portrait can become a phone wallpaper, a printed photo book cover, a mug, a greetings card, or a small canvas for a relative - all from the one download. People are endlessly inventive with it, and that's the joy of owning the artwork rather than a single object.
